Fighting With My Family

I know nothing about wrestling, but here’s what I do know about: Stephen Merchant. Here’s a very talented writer, actor, and he’s just funny! When I saw the trailer for Fighting With My Family, I knew that I had to check it out, although I was worried that my ignorance towards wrestling might hinder my enjoyment of the film. Fortunately, that wasn’t the case and Merchant delivered a quality film.

Fighting With My Family almost feels like a quality comedy from the nineties in a weird way, and also like an early Edgar Wright film in terms of writing. Stephen Merchant wrote a great script! This movie is quite funny, but it’s not afraid to put the comedy on the back burner for the sake of a quality story. This film is very touching, because it really understand this families dynamic. The chemistry between the actors playing the family is fantastic! Every time I get to see Nick Frost in a film, I’m overjoyed and Fighting With My Family was no exception! Florence Pugh portrays Paige, and I thought that she was a fantastic lead! I can’t wait to see what she does next. Jack Lowden plays Zack, her brother, and I thought that they had impeccable chemistry . I’d very much like to see them together again.

There really isn’t too much to say about this movie. The plot is pretty simple and there aren’t many surprises, but that’s not a problem. This film knows exactly what it what it is, and doesn’t pretend to be anything more. This film did have my crying on a few occasions, due to great performances and terrific dialogue. Fighting With My Family is relentlessly entertaining! This is one of those movies that you could pop in any time!

If I were to pick out a flaw with this movie, I would say that the direction is a little simple…but, honestly, who cares? This movie is a refreshing change of pace and I think you should check it out!
